Dynasty is a Canadian base brand with deep Chinese and Asian roots. Since 2010, they have been in the market making different products for MMA and BJJ. The brand’s goal is to bring true Chinese products to the market; not only by having a symbol or a logo but by bringing meaning and paying heritage to the Asian culture. As they say:
We are proud to be the first and only Chinese MMA brand in the world.
Have you ever visited a website that you literealy want to buy every single item they have? Well, that’s how I feel every time I check Dynasty Clothing’s website. Their rashgards are amazing, they have a Gundam themed, a Bruce Lee themed and my favorite, a Dragon Shiryu themed.
Make sure you check their website out for pictures and other products. Today we are going to review the gi with one of the sickest designs I’ve seen: The Dynasty Raging Demon Kimono.
Design / Style
I don’t even know where to start. This gi is beautiful. The amount of details on it is impressive and the quality is top notch.
The Dynasty Raging Demon Kimono was inspired by Akuma the Legendary Street Fighter character. To be more precise, it was inspired on his Final Special Move the One Thousand Hits in an instant. If you played SF you know what I’m talking about. This move is unique in several ways and it’s hard to avoid when you have to fight against Akuma as this is unblockable and it’s an almost guarantee GAME OVER. Now back to the gi: The gi color is a navy purple-ish blue. It’s super unique. The embroidery is red. On the sleeve cuff, the seam on the bottom jacket and the pants cuff have a red and navy blue pattern seam tape that covers the stitches.
On the front of the jacket you’ll have embroidered the 4 letters of Akuma’s move on both sides of the chest: 一瞬千擊 (one thousand strikes in a instant)
On the sleeves there’s the “D” from Dynasty embroidered inside a fireball. On the back, the Akuma trademark kanji 天 (ten) is embroidered covering almost the whole back. Ten means “heaven” and on this concept “divine retribution” which is a reference to the japanese word tenchu this symbolizes “assassination” and ties together with the kanji 禊 (purification) on the right side of the pants.
Finally the Dynasty logo is on the lapel tag and embroidered on the top left side of the pants.
What I would have done differently: I wouldn’t do contrasting stitching; I would keep it traditional. The Dynasty fireball on the sleeves I feel might be a little too much. Since the Shoyoroll Maeda, I have found that sleeve embroidery is not my favorite detail. And finally, can we have a sleeveless version, just for fun? That Dynasty Raging Demon has lot of details, and it comes together very well. It’s an amazing gi, and I’m very impressed with it.
Top notch. The rip stop pants are great and very comfortable. I just wish the knee reinforcement would come all the way to the bottom. The jacket is also comfortable, 450 gsm is a good choice and major areas are triple stitched and reinforced. The seam tape is not scratchy at all, I had a small issue with the seam tape coming off on some areas. I took some pictures and talked to the guys at Dynasty, in a matter of hours they told me that for sure it was defective stitching and offered me a full gi replacement without any cost. Fantastic customer service!
I reviewed a size A2 on the Dynasty Raging Demon and it fits me very well (I’m 5’7″, 175lbs). After a couple of washes I got an average of 2.3% shrinkage which is great. Most of the shrinkage came from the sleeves and the pants. I barely noticed any shrinkage from the jacket height. However, the lapel ended up closing a little too high on my chest in my opinion. Not a big deal but this problem wouldn’t happen if I had a more even shrinkage on the jacket. Here are the measurements I got:
This is also a surprisingly light gi compared to others we reviewed with that amount of embroidered details.
|Brand (all A2 size)||Weight (grams)|
|93 BRAND – Hooks||1493|
|DYNASTY Raging Demon||1735|
|Break Point BTS Deluxe||1883|
The Dynasty Raging Demon retails for $219.99. It’s not the cheapest gi around, but also it’s not a regular one in any aspect. The amount of details are impressive, the quality is fantastic and having an Akuma gi is AMAZING. I think it’s totally worth it and recommend this gi without a doubt. Dynasty is also a brand that is different, they know what they are doing. They know Chinese and Asian culture more than any other brands around and their customer service is one of best I’ve had to deal with. You can get the Dynasty Raging Demon at Dynasty’s website.
