Submission FC Hemp Shirt
45% Organic Cotton
Few "generic" designs
Submission FC is releasing a new batch of products, and I do hope it will include a hemp gi. For now, we have their brand new shirts. We got it a little earlier in order to review and I really like it. The shirts are made with 55% hemp and they are very comfortable. I really like the design and the feel of the hemp fabric. This is my first hemp shirt and I’m very happy with it. Let’s check the full review:
Well, you can’t smoke this shirt. This hemp is a variant of the Cannabis plant. Most people call it industrial hemp. With a very low concentration of THC the industrial hemp is an organic alternative to cotton and other fabrics because:
- Requires few pesticides
- Requires NO herbicides
- It’s a carbon NEGATIVE raw material
Hemp is also a good alternative to cotton because it’s around 8-10 times stronger.
These are my first hemp shirts, and I am impressed with the quality. The material feels different and thicker than regular cotton shirts. Some official specks:
- Made of 55% Hemp / 45% Organic Cotton
- Printed in the U.S.A
- Tag printed inside collar for comfort
- Super Soft & Comfortable
- All Natural
There is no label tag on the shirt; it’s printed on the inside of the collar which is a great little feature. The printed design on the front of the shirt and the Submission FC logo on the sleeves are done using silk screen process. Not my favorite but it’s very well done in this case. After several washes the colors faded just a little but the shirts still look great.
The hemp felt a little rougher than cotton before the first wash. I have washed this shirt at least 5 times and used the dryer every time and now the shirt feels much softer (you should notice that right after the first wash). I believe I can give this shirt to someone and they would not notice it’s not cotton.
The sizes run a little bigger than regular shirts here in the US. I’m 5’7 and medium was a good choice. Hemp is very famous for shrinking ( usually more than 5%.) Submission FC did their homework and all their shirts are pre-shrunk so you don’t have to worry about it.
Measurements in Cm Before Wash After Wash Width 52cm 50cm Length 78cm 76cm
I noticed very minimum shrinkage, and I used the dryer every time. So, I suggest you get your regular shirt size.
Here is Submission FC official size chart (in inches):
The Shirts are available in two different designs:
This first one is inspired by a quote from Rickson that once said:
If size mattered, the elephant would be king of jungle Rickson Gracie
This shirt color is a light beige and the stamp uses a contrasting dark brown.
This one is also inspired by a famous quote:
After the clinch, it doesn’t matter what happens, one way or another, we’re going to hit the ground, and we’ll be in my world. The ground is my ocean, I’m the shark, and most people don’t even know how to swim. Carlos Machado
This shirt is blue and uses a lighter tone of blue for the stamp.
I liked the shirts. They are different to what we are used to on the market. It is a step forward for Submission FC in searching for the perfect fabric blend and possibly (fingers crossed) offer a hemp gi.
I would liked to see either more designs or more BJJ obvious designs. The quotes are well known in the BJJ community, but they can be a little too “generic.” I’d love to see a shirt with a guy wearing a gi, some chess pieces or maybe a cartoon of Rickson and Carlos.
The shirts are available NOW on Submission FC’s website and they retail for $39.95
